Supporting, Social, Cultural, Environmental and Economic Development in Haliburton County

Since its establishment in 1999, the U-Links Centre for Community-Based Research has been a catalyst for positive change in Haliburton County. Over its duration, U-Links has overseen the successful completion of almost nearly 300 research projects, forging impactful collaborations with over 100 local organizations, leveraging the expertise of more than 70 academic faculty members and engaged the skills and talents of over 2700 student researchers. This collective effort has not only enriched our community but has also cultivated an unparalleled education experience through community-based learning.

Experience Collaborative Learning

Our pioneering Community-Based Education (CBE) program in a rural community takes a modern approach to learning and development. By forging partnerships between local organizations and accomplished faculty & students from Trent University, Fleming College and other academic institutions, we address vital research inquiries while simultaneously fostering the growth of community organizations. These partnerships create lasting connections and deliver tangible, measurable benefits that enrich the lives of those who call Haliburton County home.

Our Mission in Action

At the core of our mission lies a commitment to propel Haliburton County's growth and development. We are dedicated to collaborating closely with community organizations, businesses and municipalities to unearth actionable insights that will drive sustainable progress. By doing so, we pave the way for strategic advancements that uplift the entire region.

Simultaneously, our mission is to cultivate a dynamic educational landscape. Through our innovative approach, students are provided with unparalleled avenues to elevate their capabilities. By engaging in immersive community-based research projects and hands-on service learning initiatives, students receive the tools, practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the modern world.

Lastly, we champion community engagement and empowerment. Our mission extends to amplifying the voices of our community, bridging the gap between local concerns and the academic sphere. By fostering a two-way dialogue, we enable academic institutions to gain valuable insights directly from local expert knowledge holders from within the community, enhancing their understanding of real-world challenges and driving responsive development.

Together, these aspects of our mission create the compelling narrative of growth, education and community empowerment.

Your support will fuel our missions success, enabling us to forge a brighter future for our community.
